Plenary Discussion: The Future of SSFF

Collective discussion of moving ahead in our changing landscape. Potential brainstorm ideas include:

  • What unique role can SSFF play in the impending post-affirmative-action landscape?
  • Many of us are program builders at our respective institutions - what strategies and tactics can we share with one another to ensure these efforts thrive in the new landscape?
  • Post-AA we may see HBCUs and HSIs becoming redoubts that (re-)grow in size -- how do we act collectively and from our respective perches of power to help build capacity at these important places, beyond a "diversity and inclusion" framing?
  • Written statements on current issues -- these don't necessarily have to be beautifully crafted OpEds; there is value for posterity in creating a "paper trail" documenting what is going on and what we as scholars of color think about it, and our website can be a place to disseminate and curate these
  • Create an SSFF Speakers Bureau -- bring high quality scholarly talks and opportunities for collaboration to under-resourced institutions
  • Mechanisms for continually promoting ourselves to ever higher positions of prominence and impact -- getting SSFF members nominated as society fellows, academy members, etc.
